Dr Stuart Watkins is a Consultant Cardiologist at the West of Scotland Regional Heart and Lung Centre (Golden Jubilee National Hospital) and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. He is also an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer within the Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences at the University of Glasgow. He graduated from the University of Glasgow with BSc Med Sci (Hons) in Anatomical Sciences in 1997 and completed his MB ChB in 1999. He thereafter undertook a period of post-graduate research at the University of Glasgow and obtained his research MD in 2009 on the validation of first pass magnetic resonance 

myocardial perfusion imaging using fractional flow reserve. He trained in medicine and cardiology in the West of Scotland and then completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the University of Toronto, Canada at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in 2011. Dr Watkins performs complex percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). His research interests include coronary physiology, coronary imaging using intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) and the management of coronary bifurcation disease and severe coronary calcification. He is the UK chief investigator of the LEADERS FREE II and the  eULTRA 10K trials and the local principal investigator for a number of trials including BHF PROTECT-TAVI and DAPA MI. He has over 70 publications in international peer reviewed journals and is a regular faculty member at international conferences and an experienced live case operator.
